![]() Gigi and Nate comes out in theaters September 2, 2022. I give Gigi & Nate 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 12 to 18. This movie has some profanity, alcohol consumption and attempted suicide. The production also includes four songs written and added to the stage score by Lerner and Loewe in 1973, Paris is Paris Again, I Never Want to Go Home Again. ![]() The primary message of Gigi & Nate is to never give up - whether that means on yourself or on something you believe in. The film features songs with lyrics by Lerner and music by Frederick. Too bad for Allie that there aren't Oscars for animals, because she would win one! Kudos to Allie's trainers for making her actions seem so organic and natural! The chemistry with Charlie Rowe (Nate) and Allie feels so real that sometimes I forget I'm watching a fictional movie and not a documentary. The screenplay by Alan Jay Lerner is based on the 1944 novella of the same name by Colette. Allie (who plays Gigi), the adorable capuchin monkey, makes her acting debut in this movie, and she is trained incredibly well. The special effects are so impressive as I could barely tell when it switched from CGI to real life. Can Gigi and Nate stay together? This movie is inspired by the organization Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers for the Disabled which helps to match people with disabilities to monkeys who will help them in their day to day life. The two develop an inseparable bond, but not everyone's a fan of the relationship. This movie will put you through a range of emotions, and may even bring on the "waterworks." After barely surviving a tragic accident that left him paralyzed, Nate Gibson (Charlie Rowe) has nothing worth living for, until he meets Gigi, a capuchin monkey. Gigi (Main Title) Thank Heaven For Little Girls Its A Bore The Parisians Introduction to Maxims Waltz / Waltz at Maxims (Shes Not Thinking of Me) (. This is some very flat champagne.Gigi & Nate is an uplifting movie with an encouraging message. And the arch and sincere tonal confusion. The orchestra sounds wonderful and some of the songs are a treat. This is a grand musical, with seeds sown for much of the movie music that would follow, with even hints of what John Williams would steal for Star Wars. Joshua Bergasse’s choreography is acrobatic and playful, if perhaps somewhat overblown in The Gossips and The Night They Invented Champagne. A blockbuster movie in 1958, lovingly remastered and including of all the films incidental music reminds us why modern Hollywood can at times be dismissed with the wave of a hand. Derek McClane’s set is a Belle Époque fantasia, Natasha Katz’s lighting is sumptuous, and Catherine Zuber’s gorgeous, sensual costuming should sew up the Tony win nicely. This is a costly production and in terms of the design, that money has been very well spent. I’m a fan of his subdued, Gershwin-esque anti love song She is Not Thinking of Me and he does a fine job with the title number, though why director Eric Schaeffer has him sing half of it while squatting on a park bench is beyond me. There’s no sense of a real girl behind the trills and spins. The film stars Katt Williams, LisaRaye McCoy, Keri Hilson, Rotimi, Jason Mitchell, DC Young Fly, Cedric Pendleton and Jazzy Jade with features and appearances by music artists Latto, Keith Sweat. She sings the songs like she’s at elocution lessons and dances with featureless competence. But Hudgens has been so thoroughly Disneyfied that she’s about as natural as an Eiffel Tower keychain. ![]() Of course, much would be forgiven if the central romance brought a tear to the eye rather than a “ho-hum” to the lips. Her great triumph is to up her sexual servitude from temporary to permanent. But what exactly is that course? She’s a charming little scamp who likes chocolates, the seaside and cheating at card games. And there’s a bit more talk of Gigi wanting to determine the course of her own life. It’s still the same story of a Parisian gamine being trained up as a courtesan, though now, courtesy of book writer Heidi Thomas, of Call the Midwife fame, grandmamma has greater misgivings. The feeble feminist revisionism only points up the musical’s problems.
